Lost Sailor

2017

Lost Sailor is a digital illustration inspired by a personal loss during my travels in Buenos Aires. After my journal containing the original sketch was stolen, I used a photo of the drawing to recreate and enhance it digitally. This piece symbolizes resilience and the ability to reclaim beauty from adversity, reflecting my journey and growth through art.

About

Lost Sailor is a poignant illustration that tells a story of loss and resilience. After my backpack was stolen in Buenos Aires, the theft took with it my journal—home to the original sketch of the sailor depicted here. However, fate intervened when I discovered a photo of the drawing, taken just a day before the unfortunate incident. This allowed me to breathe life back into the Lost Sailor, transforming a moment of tragedy into a vivid, digital representation. The sailor may be physically lost, but through this piece, he sails again in color and creativity. While my first experience in Buenos Aires was bittersweet, it has deepened my appreciation for the beauty and vibrancy of the city. I look forward to returning with renewed perspective and an open heart.
